George R. Harper – 10/21/42 – 2/20/17   Was recognized as a leading attorney in the field of Latin American – U.S. business transactions. International legal projects with which he has had significant experience include operating and finance aviation equipment leases, foreign debt renegotiations, asset-based lending, distribution agreements, franchising, licensing, and commercial transactions.

Formerly the Chairman of the International Law Section of The Florida Bar, Mr. Harper received his B.S. from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the University of Miami Law Review. He was named to the Hispanic Business Magazine Legal Elite list and is a recipient of the Inter-American Law Review Lawyer of the Americas award. He was also named one of Florida’s “Legal Elite” for 2008 by Florida Trend Magazine. He is “A.V.” rated by Martindale Hubbell.

Active in civic affairs, he has served on The Salvation Army Advisory Board, as President of the University of Miami Alumni Association, and as Chairman of the Board of the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, where he is presently a member of the Board of Endowment.  He has served as an adjunct professor of law at both the University of Miami School of Law and St. Thomas University School of Law, and has lectured at numerous conferences throughout the Americas on the subject of international and inter-American law.

Mr. Harper was President of the Inter-American Bar Association for the term 2009-2010, and is presently a member of the IABA Council.  A former member of the ABA Advisory Council of the Latin America Law Initiative, Mr. Harper has significant experience in the area of Foreign Assets Control Regulations relating to Cuba.  He was fluent in Spanish.
