Last week, Harper Meyer attorney Blake Bierman joined the North American and Brazil branches of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators to participate as an arbitrator at the Advanced International Arbitration Mock Trial & Seminar hosted by the International Centre for Dispute Resolution of the American Arbitration Association (AAA-ICDR).
The event marked the first of its kind outside of Brazil, bringing together international practitioners and students representing over half a dozen jurisdictions across the Americas and Europe. Attorney Bierman currently serves as Secretary of the Young Miami International Arbitration Society (MIAS), an organization dedicated to the selection of Miami as the situs for international arbitration proceedings related to the resolution of transborder commercial and investment disputes. Designed to showcase the dynamics of arbitration practice, the program centered on a hypothetical dispute, illustrating the contrasts and intersections between common law and civil law approaches, highlighting the value of comparative legal traditions and the importance of global dialogue in arbitration.
Arbitration continues to grow as the preferred mechanism for resolving international commercial disputes, making cross-cultural understanding a vital skill for practitioners. For Harper Meyer, engagement in initiatives like this underscores its commitment to staying at the forefront of international dispute resolution and ensuring clients benefit from well-rounded, globally informed strategies.
