James M. Meyer is a founding partner of Harper Meyer LLP. He focuses his practice on representing multinational corporations, financial institutions, manufacturers, franchisors, family offices, and private high-net-worth clients across the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia in general corporate matters, commercial transactions, cross-border leasing, financing, and the sale and acquisition of capital equipment, including aircraft and yachts.
In 2019, Mr. Meyer was honored as the “37th Annual Lawyer of the Americas” by the University of Miami School of Law’s Inter-American Law Review for his outstanding and exemplary service in international law. Mr. Meyer served as Chair of the International Law Section of the Florida Bar in 2020-2021. He also served on the Florida Bar’s Eleventh Circuit Grievance Committee “G” (2021-24) and on the 2022 Host Committee for the International Bar Association’s Annual Conference in Miami.
Mr. Meyer currently serves as Director of L2B Aviation Group, the world’s largest and highest-ranked international network of aviation law firms, specializing in legal services to the aviation industry. He also recently served as a member of the Advisory Board at the Hague Court of Arbitration for Aviation, the International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA), and the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), where he remains an Advisory Board Member of the Tax and Regulatory Committee. He is also a United States Coast Guard Licensed Captain with Merchant Mariner Credentials.
He is a member of the Florida Bar’s International, Entertainment, Arts, and Sports Law Sections. Mr. Meyer is also a member of the NAPABA (National Asian Pacific American Bar Association) and APABA (The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida), both of which play a key role in advocating Asian Pacific American legal issues. He also holds membership in the Council of the Americas (AS/COA) and the Inter-American Dialogue.

Most recently, Mr. Meyer was nominated as a “2024 Legal Luminary” in the “International Law & Trade” category by the 2024 Legal Luminary Awards, which recognize South Florida’s leading practitioners and firms across various practice areas.
Mr. Meyer currently serves in several charitable organizations, acting as the Director of the Ayudame A Vivir Foundation Inc., an organization supporting pediatric cancer facilities, and of the X Family Foundation, supporting families affected by the Fragile X Syndrome (a genetic disorder that often occurs in children on the Autism Spectrum). He is also the President of Asopuente International, an organization dedicated to aiding socioeconomically disadvantaged women in Guatemala. From 2021 through 2024, he served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Ayiti Community Trust (a partner of the Miami Foundation) dedicated to benefiting the people of Haiti through innovation, education, and partnership with local and grassroots organizations. Mr. Meyer also served on the Steering Committee for Dwyane Wade’s Wade World Foundation and its’ “A Night at the RunWade” event from 2013 to 2015. Mr. Meyer received his B.A. with magna cum laude honors from Arizona State University, Phi Beta Kappa, and his J.D., with cum laude honors, from the University of Miami School of Law, where he served as the Articles and Comments Editor of the Law Review and where served as an Adjunct Professor in International Secured Finance; as a frequent guest lecturer and commentator on International Commercial matters; and as an active member of the University of Miami Citizens Board. Outside his alma mater, Mr. Meyer has further served South Florida’s legal education through previous membership in the Steering Committee for International Law Studies at the Florida International University College of Law.
