James M. Meyer is a founding partner of Harper Meyer LLP. He concentrates his practice on the representation of multinational corporations, financial institutions, manufacturers, franchisors, family offices, and private high-net-worth clients in general corporate matters; commercial transactions; cross-border leasing; financing; and the sale and acquisition of capital equipment, including aircraft and yachts throughout the U.S., Caribbean, Europe, and Asia.

In 2019, Mr. Meyer was honored for his outstanding and exemplary service in the field of international law by being named the 37th Annual Lawyer of the Americas by the University of Miami School of Law’s Inter-American Law Review. Mr. Meyer is the Immediate-Past Chair of the Florida Bar’s International Law Section; Chair of the Florida Bar’s Eleventh Circuit Grievance Committee “G,” and served on the 2022 Host Committee for the International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference in Miami. Additionally, Mr. Meyer is the Immediate-Past Chair and continues to serve as a Director of the L2B Aviation Group, the world’s largest, most highly ranked international network of aviation law firms specializing in the provision of legal advice to the aviation industry. He is a member of the Advisory Board at the Hague Court of Arbitration for Aviation, the International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA), and the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), where he forms part of the Tax and Regulatory Committee. He is also a member of the International Bar Association and the International, Entertainment, Arts, and Sports Law Sections of the Florida Bar.

Mr. Meyer currently serves in a number of charitable organizations, acting as the Director of the Ayudame A Vivir Foundation Inc., an organization supporting pediatric cancer facilities, and of the X Family Foundation, a foundation supporting families affected by the Fragile X Syndrome (a genetic disorder that often occurs in children on the Autism Spectrum). Mr. Meyer is the President of Asopuente International, an organization dedicated to aiding socioeconomically disadvantaged women in Guatemala, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Ayiti Community Trust (a partner of the Miami Foundation) dedicated to benefiting the people of Haiti through innovation, education, and partnership with local and grassroots organizations. He further served on the Steering Committee for Dwyane Wade’s Wade World Foundation and its’ “A Night at the RunWade” event from 2013 to 2015. Mr. Meyer additionally holds membership in the Council of the Americas, the Inter-American Dialogue, and the Caribbean Central American Action organization.

He has been ranked by Best Lawyers in America, U.S. News & World Report for Corporate Law, and named in the International and State of Florida’s “Who’s Who” lists of Business Lawyers by the Who’s Who Legal Organization. Mr. Meyer has also been listed in The Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Aviation Lawyers; Euromoney’s Aviation Guide to the World’s Leading Practitioners; named as one of the Leading Miami-based Latin America-focused Practitioners by the Latin Lawyer; one of the State’s Legal Elite by Florida Trend Magazine; nominated as one of Florida’s Top Lawyers by South Florida Legal Guide®, and further recognized as a Florida Super Lawyer® by Law & Politics Magazine; and as one of Miami’s Best Legal Leaders by Miami Today.

Mr. Meyer received his B.A. with magna cum laude honors from Arizona State University, Phi Beta Kappa, and his J.D., with cum laude honors, from the University of Miami School of Law, where he served as the Articles and Comments Editor of the Law Review and continues to serve as an active alumnus through his membership on the Citizens Board; teachings as an Adjunct Professor in International Secured Finance; and is a frequent guest lecturer and commentator on International Commercial matters. Outside his alma mater, Mr. Meyer has further served South Florida’s legal education through previous membership in the Steering Committee for International Law Studies at the Florida International University College of Law.
