As part of a dynamic initiative to foster dialogue around the legal dimensions of the creative industries, on April 16, 2025, Harper Meyer Partners Laura Reich and Clarissa Rodriguez participated on a panel on Art and Fashion Law hosted by FIU Law’s Sports, Entertainment, Fashion, and Art Law Society (SEFA).

Moderated by Laura Reich and featuring Clarissa Rodriguez, Matthew Akiba from Bakarat + Bossa, and Robert J. Becerra from Becerra Law, P.A as guest speakers, the opening panel of the Society’s annual symposium offered attendees a wealth of insight into art law, intellectual property, and international trade, underscoring the pivotal role of law in protecting creative expression while addressing commercial complexities. From emerging designer protections to counterfeit enforcement, the conversation touched on timely challenges and legal strategies shaping the future of fashion and the arts.

The discussion also delved into trade policy and cross-border issues, exploring how international agreements and tariffs influence the movement of fashion goods and artworks. Ethical considerations were also brought to the forefront, reinforcing the need for multidisciplinary awareness among legal practitioners in these industries.

Harper Meyer remains committed to nurturing the next generation of legal professionals who will shape the future of the creative and legal landscapes, which includes connecting legal education with the creative sectors while highlighting the intersections of artistry, commerce, and regulation to offer students valuable perspectives on the legal frameworks that support and guide today’s diverse creative industries.
