Cuba Standard – May 2015: James Meyer as guest columnist on Cuba Standard on the dual role of U.S. lawyers in Cuba
James Meyer was featured in the Cuba Standard’s monthly publication Guest Column this month. He addressed the excitement at the prospect of doing business in Cuba in a new era of U.S.-Cuba rapprochement. James Meyer states: “The sheer volume of laws, regulations, and treaties in both countries that will need to be changed in order to trigger significant business activity is somewhat daunting, not to mention the political and bureaucratic quagmires along the way to implement those changes.” He advises that attorneys handling commercial matters between the U.S. and Cuba should be prepared to serve their clients as counselors as well as negotiators, analysts, arbitrators, lobbyists, entrepreneurs, advocates and scholars.
